Title: A Dog Named Christmas Author: Greg Kincaid Publisher: Convergent Books Publication Date: 4 November 2008 Print Length: 160 pages George McCray is the narrator in this story he tells about his twenty-year-old son, Todd, who has a learning disability. Todd loves to paint and he loves animals. When Todd hears on the radio that the local animal shelter is asking families to foster a pet during the Christmas holiday, he wants to become a foster parent. Todd's parents agrees he can foster a pet as long as his messy room gets cleaned. They probably thought, like most parents do, that he would pick up a few items and declare it clean. No! Todd went into pristine cleaning mode. The day came to foster a pet from the animal shelter. Todd stopped at each cage, looking closely at the pets. He asked many questions about the animals before making his decision. "..., we left the shelter with our new friend. The crisp winter wind caught my breath, but I managed to asked, 'Do you want to name him?' "Already did,' Todd said to my surprise as he hurried toward the truck. "What? "I named him 'Christmas.' Todd opened the truck door and Christmas instantly jumped in. Todd climbed in next to the dog and I got in behind the wheel, oddly at ease with this warm furry presence comfortably wedged between my son and me. As I started the ignition, the radio came to life, a Christmas song filling the cold Kansas air. "I looked at Todd and the dog and said, 'That's a good name. That's a read good name." There are lessons upon lessons throughout this story. In 2009 is made into a Hallmark Channel movie.
